Calling children aged 5-11! As part of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge theme, ‘Read To The Beat‘, join us at Birnam Library for a special music-themed junk modelling session! Get hands-on and let your imagination run wild to make amazing musical instruments out of junk and household items!

Under 8s should be supervised by an accompanying adult.

Spaces are limited; Tickets available from Birnam Library.

Summer Reading Challenge 2026

The 2026 Summer Reading Challenge, “Read to the Beat!”, is a free programme for children aged 4–11. It invites children to read six books during the summer holidays, with a fun theme around music, sound, and stories. 

Families can sign up at any Culture Perth & Kinross library. Children will receive a challenge pack, collect stickers as they go, and earn a certificate and medal when they finish.

The challenge supports children to keep reading over the summer and feel confident and ready for the new school year.
